“Precautions to be taken during maintenance of Turn-outs”
Liners (with correct drawing no) and ERCs should be correctly placed and complete fastening should be ensured.
Check rail clearance in PSC T/O is 41-45 mm, because gauge of PSC T/O is 1673 mm. check rail clearance should not be more than permitted gap and check rail bolts should not be loose, otherwise wheel’s flange can hit nose of crossing.
Before tightening the bolts of slide chair, heel block and distance block should be applied with black oil.
In 1 in 12 PSC T/O, rubber pads in CMS xing having drawing no T-6204 to T-6211 = 8 nos to be provided from sleeper no 66 to 73. For this Nylon rubber cord rubber pads are also available (Drg. No-T-7014-7021). For 1 in 8.5 PSC T/O, rubber pad in CMS crossing having Drg No. T-6198-6203= 6 Nos to be provided from sleeper no 43 to 48.
During packing of PSC Turn outs by unimat, liners in crossing portion should be complete and correctly fitted, so that gauge can’t be disturbed. Sleepers behind the HOC should be packed by crow-bar, because machine’s tools are unable to pack between sleeper no 74 to 76 due to less space. While packing cross-over, it should be ensured that, sleeper’s end should not touch with other turn-out’s sleepers or ballast should not be entangled between the sleepers. If so, working at one turn-out will disturb other turn-out alignment. In this case sleeper’s spacing should be adjusted to prevent misalignment.
Vertical wear in tongue rail should be measured at 13mm below from the top of rail table (maximum wear permitted is 8mm for 60kg and 5mm for 52kg rail).
Lateral wear in tongue rail should be measured at 13mm below from the top of rail table (maximum wear permitted is 8mm for 60kg and 6mm for 52kg rail).
The gap between top of stretcher bar and bottom of stock rail should be between 1.5 mm to 3 mm.
If tongue rail’s housing is not proper, check all stretcher bar is available with correct drawing number and remove the slide chair, clean it and refix. Ensure proper curvature for Tongue rails in turn-out side. Ensure proper packing of all sleepers in switch portion so that tounge rails should seat evenly on all slide chairs.
If tongue rail is floating for more than 5mm, it should be treated as bent tongue rail.
To reduce wear in tongue rail, apply grease on gauge face once in 15 days.
Throw of switch should be between 115 and 118mm.
Turnout’s versine should be measured with 6m chord at 3 m intervals. Versine in 1 in 12 T/out should be 10.2mm and in 1 in 8.5 T/out should be 20.2mm. It should be kept in mind that difference in versine between two consecutive stations should not be more than ±4mm in lead and turn-in curve.  The value of versine difference should not vary by ±3mm above designed versine for that station.
To avoid jamming of rail screw, it should be removed and greased in every 6 months.
